Institutional Relations

The BIC focuses its work on building relations with members of Congress, officials at the Executive Branch, representatives of business and consumers associations, workers unions, leading think-tanks, universities and the press to foster the goals of its membership.

Over the years it has also developed a number of permanent initiatives to raise awareness about Brazil and issues relevant to the United States.

Brazil on the Hill Annual Barbecue

In its 8th Edition, the Brazil on the Hill Barbecue is an annual event hosted by the Ambassador of Brazil at his residence as an opportunity for the Brazilian business community to engage with members of Congress and their staff, as well as officials of the Executive Branch and representatives of the U.S. private sector.

Contact Brazil

In its 6th Edition, Contact Brazil is a resource guide for anyone interested in learning more about Brazil through contacts based in the U.S. It lists Brazilian diplomats to the United States, representatives at multilateral organizations, members of the U.S. government working on Brazil-related issues, scholars specialized in Brazil at U.S. universities and think-tanks, correspondents of the Brazilian press, and Brazilian companies established in the United States.

Fact-Finding Missions to Brazil

The BIC supports specialists’ fact-finding missions to Brazil as a means to disseminate information about Brazil and closely monitor the development of the country’s political, economic and social trends. The missions supported by the organization since its establishment are the following:

2008 – Mining and Steel Industry (February-March)
2006 – Agriculture, Energy, Environment and Industry (October)
2005 – Energy, Industry and Trade (November-December)
2005 – Energy and Industry (May)
2003 – Agriculture, Industry and Trade (November)

Young Political Leaders Visits

In partnership with the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL), the BIC organizes regular visits of American young political leaders to Brazil and of their counterparts in Brazil to the U.S. This initiative aims at developing a network of contacts between participants, as well as to support a long-term relation at the political level. The visits supported by the organization since its establishment are the following:

2008 – Delegation of 7 (seven) Brazilian Young Political Leaders to the U.S.
2007 – Delegation of 7 (seven) American Young Political Leaders to Brazil
2005 – Delegation of 7 (seven) American Young Political Leaders to Brazil

3rd IDEA/Brasil Seminar of Design and 2008 IDEA/Brasil Winners’ Exhibit

In a partnership with Objeto Brazil, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (APEX-Brasil) and the Brazil Permanent Mission to the Organization of American States, the BIC organized the 3rd International Design Excellence Award (IDEA)/Brasil Seminar of Design and the Winner’s Exhibit of the 2008 IDEA/Brasil, the major Brazilian design award.
